Toolbachs History

Where there is a beginning, there is typically an ending. Of course, we’ve tended to ignore that formality and have just enjoyed the “middle”. We start “getting it” in odd places and finish in some other place…sometimes….

Moments of inspiration, joy, spiritual enlightenment and frustration may well describe the fruits of our labors. And they are certainly labors of love, as there can be no question to the devotion to the craft. Whether we have talent or not shouldn’t be in question, as that isn’t the point. We’re just trying to enjoy our take on our music, period. From 1976 until the present, we’ve plied our wares mostly for our own entertainment, only occasionally stepping into the public eye, demonstrating at least a unique ability to perform completely original songs, in an effort to translate this dense language we call music. (Oh, and sometimes we do take liberty with other people’s songs, and we will certainly give credit when that happens….but you might not recognize the songs, of course!)

Some get it, some don’t. So be it.

We’ve had the opportunity to record our efforts in multiple formats including: cassette, ¼” 4 track, ½” 8 track, High Fidelity VCR and finally into a digital format, using DigiDesign’s renowned ProTools. And somehow, most of it survived. There are literally 1,000’s of hours of efforts/jams/etc. lying in boxes, or residing on hard drives, CD’s or DVD’s, all deteriorating as I type. We have converted much of our early analog stuff into a digital format in an effort to share it here and elsewhere, and hopefully will occasionally find a gem hiding in those old tapes to share with you. We cannot be described as professional or classically trained. We also aspire to no great heights. We’re not trying to “set the bar”, but are simply trying to enjoy whatever the moment brings us. Sometimes the moment bears fruit, other times, well….maybe not fruit. But we try to enjoy it anyway. You don’t have to like the picture on the wall, but it is on the wall, with your face in front of it. Maybe your Grandma likes it, sucker. Get over it. 8-)

With our best wishes, we now present you with what we have. Take or leave it, it is what it is.
